A bit about Arllia B

A PhD student with 5 years teaching AQA A-level & GCSE Psychology, AQA/EQUQAS Sociology, and BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 Health and Social Care in further education colleges. I take great pride in delivering high-quality lessons across these subjects, engaging students and fostering a deep understanding of the material. As the lead for A-level Psychology at my current college, I have supported students in reaching their academic potential through well-structured lessons and a strong commitment to Quality First Teaching. In addition to Psychology, my experience teaching Sociology and Health and Social Care has broadened my ability to work with a diverse range of learners, each with unique needs and learning styles. I am passionate about creating an inclusive learning environment where students feel supported both academically and personally. My focus is on inspiring and motivating students to not only succeed in their studies but also to develop critical thinking and life skills that they can carry forward. I have been heavily involved in curriculum development, enhancing course materials to ensure that lessons are challenging, relevant, and engaging. I am proactive in integrating technology into my teaching, using online platforms and tools to enrich the learning experience and keep students engaged, whether they are in the classroom or learning remotely. In addition to my teaching duties, I have taken on leadership roles within the department, playing a key part in evaluating and improving our academic programmes. My collaboration with colleagues ensures that we maintain the highest standards of teaching across Psychology, Sociology, and Health and Social Care. I actively participate in continuous professional development, always seeking to refine my skills and stay updated with the latest educational trends. This diverse teaching experience has strengthened my passion for education and my commitment to delivering an exceptional learning experience for every student. I strive to ensure that each learner not only excels academically but also feels valued and supported throughout their educational journey. In my lessons, I place a strong emphasis on both exam practice and active discussions to ensure students fully engage with the material and understand how to apply their knowledge. Typically, I begin with a clear learning objective, outlining what we aim to achieve by the end of the lesson. I then introduce key concepts or theories, ensuring students grasp the foundational knowledge before moving into more interactive elements. Discussions are a key part of my teaching, as I believe they encourage critical thinking and help students explore different perspectives. These discussions often revolve around real-world applications of the topics we're covering, especially in subjects like Psychology, Sociology, and Health and Social Care, where understanding social context and human behaviour is crucial. Towards the end of the lesson, I focus on exam practice. I provide students with past paper questions or tailor-made tasks that reflect the exam format, helping them become familiar with the types of questions they will face and how to structure their answers effectively. This combination of active discussion and exam practice ensures students are not only engaged during lessons but also well-prepared for their assessments. I hold a BA in Education from a Russell Group University (University of Birmingham) which provided me with a solid foundation in teaching and learning processes. I furthered my studies with an MA in Education and Psychology from University of Warwick, allowing me to explore the psychological aspects of education and their impact on student learning. I also completed a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education, obtaining Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, which equipped me with the necessary skills to teach effectively in further education settings. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Education and Social Justice at University of Lancaster, focusing on critical issues in education that promote equity and inclusion. These qualifications reflect my commitment to continuous learning and my passion for improving educational practices. One of my greatest successes in teaching came when I saw a significant transformation in my students' engagement and understanding of complex sociological concepts. After implementing tailored support strategies and interactive activities, several students who initially struggled began to excel. Their improvement was evident in both their class participation and assessment scores. The moment that stood out most was when a student expressed their newfound interest in sociology, sharing how they felt more confident in discussing and analyzing various theories. This not only validated my teaching approach but also reinforced my belief in the importance of creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Witnessing my students' growth and enthusiasm has been incredibly rewarding and motivates me to continue striving for excellence in my teaching.
