A bit about Brian H

Apart from the academic side, I specialise in helping students achieve their goals by realising their potential, not only by helping them learn the subject, but also through confidence building. I am aware of the usual sticky points that student face at this level. I can also offer insight into solving problems that teachers do not have time to give in a large class setting. Language and structure / layout both play a large part in helping students to learn how to solve maths problems. Each student has individual requirements; some like an informal approach, some prefer a more formal lesson; I am able to plan / adapt lessons accordingly. As an experienced tutor of 8 years (3500 hrs of teaching), I work together with the student to identify problem areas and continually assess and give feedback on such. I first started tutoring eight years ago after finishing my time writing the software that planned freeview for OFCOM, and some additionally related consultancy work. My main hobby is writing software that uses Genetic Algorithms to train Neural Networks to solve seemingly intractable engineering problems. However, my main focus is on my five year old daughter and keeping her entertained :o) Sometime around the cretaceous period, when I was doing my A-levels, the college teacher there was amazing;. They were always well prepared, used exceptional notes and his clarity of explanation made it easy to become more interested and engage. He would also have time for us at the end of the lesson for questions, sometimes quite general ones from me :o)
