A bit about Thomas D

The thing I love most about teaching my subject is when I see students start making connections on their own. Rather than just absorbing information, they are solving puzzles and acquire the skills necessary to tackle questions systematically. I take great pride in knowing that the mental tools they acquire will make a lasting difference in their lives. My teaching style is to "cliff note" the most important parts of the problem in about five minutes and then discuss. I think that discussion and trying to engineer a solution or to design a system is the best way to teach, because that process ensures full understanding of all important principles in play. I started out tutoring with 16 by teaching a 14 year old family friend some elements of GCSE level biology. That was when I learned that I find the process very rewarding, leading me to seize every opportunity to gather tutoring experience and build my teaching skills. To this day, I have done over 200 hours of tutoring at various levels up to and including undergraduate. I'm an enthusiastic researcher. My main goal on this site is to show that the things you are taught as curriculum have great value if you are interested in a career that uses your creativity and reasoning skills. I think problem solving is the most entertaining way to spend your time and hope to impart a bit of that attitude to my students.
