A bit about Lisa C

Hi I'm Lisa. I'm a friendly and enthusiastic primary teacher with additional expertise in supporting children with special educational needs and social, emotional and mental health needs. I enjoy making lessons fun, hands on and relating to real life and can tutor in all primary subjects plus Maths up to year 9. I develop trust with my students and build up their confidence, supporting them with any anxieties they may have towards learning or a particular subject. I specialise in primary Maths and English (including Reading and Phonics) and in supporting children with additional needs. I have taught for 11 years in mainstream schools and 7 years in special schools or home school settings. I have also tutored for five years. Where possible, communication is set up with the student's teacher in order to establish where support is needed. I review the previous lesson's learning to check understanding and then move on in small steps to the next stage using practical resources where possible to embed learning. Lots of tutor modelling then student practising until they are fully confident and competent. Their learning is reviewed at the end of the lesson too. I tutored from 2008 to 2014 previously and have tutored children from year 1 up to year 8, mostly individually but sometimes in pairs. I have tutored Maths and English but am also able to tutor primary Science. I love being a tutor as I can give personalised attention to one student or a small group and so close any gaps in their learning more quickly. I enjoy building up a close, supportive and respectful relationship and witnessing those lightbulb moments as they start to gain confidence. I have a Bachelors and a Masters degree and a PGCE in primary education. Outside of teaching I'm a keen runner and have completed many 10k and half marathon races plus five marathons so far. I'm mad about animals, have two rescue dogs which I take for long walks, am vegan and volunteer for various animal charities. I also love reading, vegan baking and gardening.
