A bit about Amanda J

I love Science and enjoy sharing my passion for the subject with my students. I am a qualified Secondary School teacher with 20 years of experience. I have also been an A-Level Biology examiner. Having taught in schools for so many years, I have a thorough grasp of the content and expectations of the UK national curriculum. I am a calm and patient personality who enjoys forging good relationships with my students, which helps me to encourage them with their studies and to be resilient. I enjoy studying the art of teaching and engage in the latest research on cognitive science. I consistently try to improve the outcomes of my students by utilising evidence-based practice in my teaching - some techniques I use include retrieval practice and adopting methods to limit cognitive load to help my students to grasp new concepts. I enjoy all aspects of teaching, and am as comfortable challenging students who are aiming for the top grades as I am supporting students who are striving to get to grips with some of the core concepts and have previously achieved lower grades than they hoped for. I am confident at pitching tasks at a level appropriate for each student, something I have often been recognised for when teaching within the school environment.
