A bit about Andrew Z

Philosophically I specialize in ethics, philosophy of technology, and philosophy of mind, but I am also proficient in tutoring logic, aesthetics, and epistemology. I have three degrees in philosophy with my most recent being an MSc from the University of Edinburgh. My time in academic philosophy has taught me how to write clear and thoughtful essays and I can definitely help you with your writing at any level. I have ample experience in university level academic essay writing but I also write poetry and fiction in my free time so I am prepared to help with any creative writing projects you might have as well. If you are looking for someone to help you write strong essays, engaging prose, and learn the skills required for academic success, I aim to be that tutor for you. In addition to my philosophy, English, and writing experience, I have had university level instruction in Art, Performing Arts, and Psychology. I have taken several drawing and composition courses and acting courses during my time at Sacramento City College in the United States and I minored in Psychology at CSU Chico where I took courses in the psychology of personality, psychology of hate, social psychology, and psychology of perception. I feel that my style of instruction is very down to earth and student-centric. I'm not the sort of person who will be looking to dominating the tutoring session with what I think you need. Instead, I will listen to what you're looking to get out of our sessions and work alongside you to elevate your writing and learn about the topics you need to succeed. Most students find my style welcoming and relaxed and that helps them reduce the anxiety around the learning process. I always look to present the content you are learning in a more approachable and engaging way so that when you come to learn it is something you look forward to as opposed to dreading it. Learning is supposed to be interesting and fulfilling and I believe I can make it that way for my students. I believe that I am not only a means to help you do well in your courses and to help you learn the subject material, but also someone who can help you learn the concepts in a way that will be transferable to other disciplines and aspects of your life. Education and learning should be aimed towards versatile application of concepts and I want to help you in understanding those concepts. Along with that, I believe that learning comes from dialogue, so I encourage fostering a conversation with students to let them learn through talking with another person as opposed to just listening to what the tutor has to say. If you're able to have a discussion about the information you're looking to learn that's when you know you can apply it to your academic work. I have two years of academic tutoring experience instructing students in philosophy at the university level. During that time I would work both one on one and in group sessions with lesson plans hand tailored to the courses they were in. That time really taught me how to work with students, to work at their pace, and to attend to their distinctive academic needs. I also spent one year as a substitute teacher in the United States where I worked with students ranging from 8-18, giving me the experience and know-how to work at a variety of levels. Philosophy is not just something I enjoy teaching but also a personal passion of mine, so I read a lot in my free time and write essays on ethics of AI and technology. I also enjoy writing poetry and fiction, primarily fantasy and sci-fi stories. The writing also helps with my interest in Dungeons & Dragons and other role-playing games where I DM games for my friends. It's also nice to get outside and away from the computer every so often so I enjoy travelling and going to the Pentlands for hiking.
