A bit about Jacob

I specialise in maths and physics, particularly A levels, although I have experience in other subjects and curricula. I was first introduced to teaching when I was lucky enough to be given a place on an internship teaching English to students at a private school and university in Tokyo. This was a spectacular opportunity for me to experience teaching in many different contexts. I was given the chance to organise whole classes as well as teaching students 1-1 and giving lectures and the range of students’ ages and abilities was very large, spanning ages 12-23. I truly loved this experience and I hope the expression “I found teaching very rewarding” isn’t too overused because that’s exactly how I felt. Arriving back in England I decided to take up private tutoring which I continued with from 2018 until this year. Firstly, I base a lot of my tuition for examinations off of my own experience doing A levels where I achieved A*s in maths, physics, further maths and over 90% in chemistry. Then my master's degree in physics gave me an understanding of all these subjects on a much deeper level that I can leverage in my tutoring. In 2019 I obtained a certification for professional tutoring from Tutoring Standard to join the BlueTutors programme for tutors graduating from Oxford and Cambridge. I do not want to sound cliche, but teaching is extremely rewarding and fulfilling for me and this is why I pursued it originally. There is nothing better, I feel, than truly helping someone to achieve their potential and seeing the marked difference in their understanding and performance after tutoring. Welcome. My name is Jacob. I graduated in 2019 from Oxford University with a master's degree in physics specialising in particle and theoretical physics. I hope to help you achieve your potential, whether that is just passing an exam or acing it! I have built up a strong intuition for understanding how a student is feeling and if they truly understand what they are doing beyond getting the correct answers. With this, I adapt my tuition for each student's individual needs. My style is to essentially to allow the student to demonstrate they understand each step so that their mind is most adaptable to potential questions. I believe my students like to know that I personalise tutoring for them and my sympathetic style. Students can be uncomfortable when they get things wrong but I use each such occasion as an opportunity, as long as you try there is no shame. A levels are what I most commonly teach, however I have also taught GCSEs and mathematics for degree level subjects. I teach various exam boards. Outside of teaching I am mainly studying philosophy, exercising and working with my church.
