A bit about Lidia R

I organize my lessons to meet my learners' needs and empower them further. I logically lay out clear and achievable steps towards the given goals. This is a solid way of building autonomous thinking. My course and lesson design secures my students success, not only in the classroom, but outside as well and empowers them in the present and for the future. My lessons begin with a short review of prior learning which allows me to check comprehension, identify misconceptions and correct errors, strengthening learning which in turn leads to automatization of concepts, ease of recall and improved outcomes. I present new concepts to students in small steps to avoid overwhelming them and to build connections between new material and prior learning. I develop metacognition, modelling the learner’s voice, and thinking aloud together as a way of building a community of enquiry and accelerating achievement and outcomes. Furthermore, I provide models and worked examples effectively scaffolding learning ensuring support at an appropriate level to solve problems and organise ideas. In lessons I provide time for students to practice effectively embedding their understanding and so they work independently. I differentiate activities, boost self-reliance practice and using Vygotsky’s Zones of Proximal Development, I further empower students through pair/group work with students at different stages of the learning journey, so they have enough time to process the new materials and obtain constructive peer and teacher feedback. Throughout the whole process, I am their guide, I support them at each stage to avoid errors and ensure their learning foundations are solid and well informed. I am a great believer in student led practice and co-operative learning to empower their learning journey and developing the class as a community of enquiry and manifest students’ voice. If we empower our students, their critical thinking develops, therefore working collaboratively aids their sense of agency and so, their voice. I have been a tutor since 2011 to adults and young people, but I have teaching experience since 2002. I completed a PGCE (MFL - Spanish) and obtained QTS at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) as well as qualifying as a Secondary school teacher from the University of Barcelona in English (EFL/ESL). I have extensive knowledge and experience of delivering high quality education programmes in personal development and social related subjects ( E.g. IB- TOK, Anthropology, Social Studies...) as I am up-to-date with current curriculum developments as a member of the PSHE association. Being committed to continuous professional development, I am currently finishing an online Master’s degree in International Education specialising in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. I am a motivated individual who loves people and who embeds diverse life experiences in a creative way in their classes, always questioning nature versus culture or creating the right environment to encourage further analysis and research. I am an eclectic person who can relate to different fields of study and find connections. I studied anthropology which embeds neuro-linguistics, language and culture, which allows me to develop an understanding of humankind’s social organization and vision of life, cultural expressions, lore, beliefs, values and language identity covered by the GCSE and A level curriculum. Spanish born, having lived in Peru and being well travelled, bestows me with the advantage of knowing first-hand the customs and idiomatic expressions of language in those countries and this helps me to bring cultural understanding to learning, as well as creating the right environment for active learning and reflective questioning in a thinking community. I believe my experience while working in development, social research and educational initiatives as an anthropologist, it is an invaluable asset that brings the world to my class in order to inspire and enthuse, curiosity and discovery . I consider myself a people’s person and I can relate to people easily by being empathetic and understanding of people’s needs. I use a humanistic and person-centred approach, always teaching by taking into account group and individual experiences and skills. I love having a good time and making it easy to have a comfortable, fruitful and fun lesson!
