A bit about David A

I am currently a physics teacher for an online school provider after being a science teacher and lecturer for the last 8 years in schools and colleges. I have a wide range of teaching experience having taught all three GCSE sciences, GCSE maths, A-Level physics, forensic science as well as adult and post 16 courses equivalent to A-Level and early degree science. I have full teaching status and have a lot of experience teaching students of all abilities across a large age range. Before my current role I have been a science co-ordinator and second in science. As such I have a great insight into wider planning for teaching GCSE science as well as all the specifications that make up the GCSE’s and can ensure all relevant content is taught to a high standard. I am also currently an examiner and standards verifier for the Edexcel exam board and as such have built up very intricate knowledge of exam technique and common misunderstandings among students. This has then enabled me to highlight specific weaknesses students have to raise their attainment beyond simply teaching/revising the content. I specialise in teaching all sciences at GCSE, however I am vastly more experienced in teaching physics and chemistry. My style of tutoring will depend on the individual student’s needs. I like to discuss the topic being taught and get a good understanding of the theory, then be able to apply that knowledge to achieve maximum marks in any assessment. Current educational assessments don’t measure understanding, they measure what parts of a student’s understanding they can write down on paper. As such, part of the tutoring I offer is teaching exam technique to ensure students achieve the grade they deserve. I have been a science teacher for 8 years and have been doing face to face and online tutoring for the last 3 years. I love knowing how things work. Tutoring science I get to talk about areas that are really interesting and go deeper into how the world works. I get to meet interesting people and help them improve and grow. It is a very rewarding job as well as being a very enjoyable one. I have a degree in law as well as a complete conversion course in physics with the equivalent of an A* in GCSE physics and an A in A-Level physics. I also have a Physics PGCE which is the credit equivalent of half a masters in physics teaching. After completing my first year I then received qualified teacher status and have grown in my teaching ability and subject knowledge over the following 7 years. In the last few years I have trained and qualified as a standards verifier and examiner for Edexcel exam board and review coursework and mark exams. I have a lot of other interests besides teaching. I have always been active in all sorts of sports and martial arts. In recent years this has become more focused playing football and kick boxing. I am married with two children which takes up a lot of my time, however I would be in trouble if I did not say spending time with them is one of my interests! I teach all exam boards and years 7-11 primarily.
