A bit about Niamh M

My degree in Education Studies has given me the opportunity to learn and observe from experienced academics, teachers and SENCOs. It enabled me to learn about the complexity of education and whilst the practice of teaching was a major aspect of my degree, I also learned about the social, environmental, and psychological aspects of an individual’s life, and how these can impact on their life experiences. Much of my research was based on the inclusion of every child and the importance of schools supporting these children throughout their education. I went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and now work as a qualified teacher in a primary school in London. The last two years working as a teacher have allowed me to find not only a job that I love doing on a daily basis, but also one that I am passionate about. I have been privileged to teach children from a range of backgrounds which has inspired me and strengthened my dedication to making a difference to all pupils. I have high expectations of all learners and I set goals which challenge and motivate the pupils in my class. As a class teacher I am accountable for pupils’ attainment and this encourages me to continuously build upon my knowledge of how children learn and how we as educators can meet those needs. I am currently teaching year 1 pupils but have experience working with children across primary school age.
