A bit about Keziah R

Hello! My name is Keziah. I have 2 years experience of teaching ESL online and 10+ SEN experience. I like open water swimming and I'm currently learning Hindi. My friends are most likely to find me in my garden or on the river. I really enjoyed working in Montessori childcare, but I would describe my teaching and lifestyle to be closer to Waldorf method because I like how closely it resembles natural cycles, this makes it much easier to understand the principles of science! I believe that this form of scheduling provides the freedom we often yearn for as well the safety of a predictable structure. I teach this way because I know that it makes us feel more secure and more capable of reaching our goals. I specialise in teaching English as a foreign language, I qualified for my TEFL certificate in June 2020, but I was already teaching informally before that time. I'm also certified to work with SEN clients. I work once a week with a SEN young adult, this is someone who I have known since they were born. This means that I have experienced how unpredictable or how very important predictability can be to an individual. I can confidently say that I have learned to adapt and find joy in guiding someone who is an atypical learner. My students have ranged from 6 years to 68 years of age and some I've taught are from Russia, Japan, Finland, Chile and Saudi Arabia - all bringing wonderful life experiences and ways of thinking! Since I spend a lot of time observing nature and caring for living things, I've had to learn the science not just from books but also from experience. Enduring I realise that in order to be happy in life, it's important to be understood and understand other peoples expectations. This means being equipped to express our thoughts into words, fulfilling that natural need is what motivates me to teach English and Spanish I love teaching Biology because I understand that humans are drawn to preserving life, being guided by vital principles and people like the security that comes from orderliness. Nature and biological structures teach us all those vital truths, it makes me really happy to have a role in helping someone else grow in wisdom and view life as a precious gift I believe that deep down, all humans are capable of displaying profound wisdom. We all have an innate desire to enjoy life and learn endlessly. It so important to see life goes on beyond the exam! I use closed/open questions, multiple choice questions and view point questions in both ESL and Biology, I believe that its much easier for the student to learn in a way that is engaging and stimulating on a personal and realistic level. I like to use visual aids and verbal illustrations. I draw the diagrams myself before the lesson time in a variety of ways using colour, pattern and geometry to help you understand the patterns/rhythms in Biology. During my ESL lessons I lead conversational classes whilst keeping in mind the needs and confidence of the student. Rather than interrupt you to correct you, I often make notes regarding Lexis, Grammar, Listening and Pronunciation and will pause every 15 - 20 minutes to review and make goals in these areas with you. If you are happy for me to do so, once a month I will assess you using the IELTS marking scheme to help you track your progress on an academic level.
