A bit about Kerry B

Hi, I am Kerry. I have been working as an English Teacher/Tutor for the past five years. I am passionate about the subject, and just as passionate about helping young/adult learners dive into their studies. I enjoy working with them as they tackle writing, reading and presentation weaknesses. I specialise in English Literature and Language reading, writing and spoken language. I plan lessons in advance to suit the needs of the individual I am working with. Every student is unique, and requires a plan tailored to their needs. In my lessons I incorporate different learning mediums to keep the lessons as engaging and informative as possible. My goal is to ensure that the learning objective is met and the learner leaves the class feeling confident about the lesson focus. I started tutoring whilst studing at university; this experience led me to train as Secondary English teacher. The drive I was able to inspire in my students enthused my excitement for the subject. I enjoy helping learners build their confidence to tackle areas of concern. I hope to be a useful resource and remove any concerns the learner may have. English is a subject that encourages expression, and gives learners the opportunity to delve deep into the works of the greats'. It is a subject that advances your reading and writing skills as a bonus. It offers you the wonderful experience of getting into the mind of the author, and take your imagination to places that help to build your creative and interpretive skills. As a Teacher/Tutor it is your role to focus your teaching style to the needs of the leaner. I enjoy working with students of all ages, and understanding how their mind works. In the first session I work to understand the learner and their learning style, incorporating techniques that keep them motivated and challenged. My favourite thing about teaching is the feeling I get when I work with a learner who has struggled to master a skill, get it in the end. As a subject it can be frustrating when the same feedback is given time after time. English is a subject that takes time to advance in, but the feeling of achievement at the end is worth every essay attempt. Teach in a style that makes it enjoyable and interesting for the learner. Assessment is important in order to understand your progression, but practice and determination are more important to inspire in the learner, rather than relentless assessment. This philiosphy ensures that when the learner approaches an asessment they do it fearlessly, and in a manner that keeps them driven.
