A bit about Richard C

When I teach English, I try and teach the rule behind the language. This is so that you can then use that rule to build your own sentences as you need them, because you remember "I need to start with who, next use 'like' (or likes), then say what they like to do", for example. I also make sure to give plenty of time for students to practice speaking and using the language. I have been tutoring since 2018, when I began tutoring for a charity called English 4 all in Leeds. There I taught English for lots of different backgrounds and creeds of people, at a variety of levels. I have also spent a year teaching in China between 2019 and 2020 with Wall Street English, which has helped refine my technique and approach further. The thing I love the most about teaching English is that I know I'm really helping someone's life by doing so. Seeing a student learn to express a part of their life they never got a chance to before is a wonderful feeling, and knowing they can take that language with them wherever they go makes me feel like I've really made a difference. My name is Richard Carmichael, I'm from North Yorkshire but have lived in various parts of the UK, as well as China. I've been teaching ESOL for three years, including for charity, for students of all levels. I studied English with Psychology at Keele University, taking on my first full time role giving technical support for O2 shortly thereafter. There I learned a lot of skills I would use later on - patience, listening and communication among them. These formed the basis for my teaching style, which I developed with Sheffield University, where I got my CELTA. Besides that, I enjoy poetry, fortune telling and long walks. I try to learn something new every day, and hope I can help you do the same.
