A bit about Dr Mike N

I am a Senior Lecturer in a UK based University specialising in Health, Nutrition and Exercise. My expertise includes human biology and physiology with emphasis on nutrition, metabolism and neuromuscular physiology, metabolic health, and research methods/ethics. I have published multiple international standard academic papers within the broad field of exercise physiology and contributed to the development of public health initiatives translating science from the laboratory to the public. I focus mainly on A level and degree level students - but also able to help GCSE Science students really reach to their potential. If you would like to find out more it would be great to speak with you directly. I've been teaching in higher education for 7 years and providing 1:1 tutorials and additional help sessions to students for the whole time. I started online tutoring in 2021 to accommodate for the boom in online teaching delivery which really plays to my strengths as a tutor. Depending on how many sessions we have together - a session will typically start by identifying relevant content for focus and solidifying the content to be covered in the session. Here I will detail the specific learning outcomes for the session which will act as way markers to ensure you leave the session having met these key outcomes. During the session we will run through a number of engaging and practical exercises bringing the targeted content to life - developing a deeper fundamental understanding of the materials - which is much more likely to be retained for a longer period of time. Towards the end of the session we will then summarise what we have covered with any take home tasks to complete ahead of our next session. Above is simply an example of how successful sessions I have run before have worked - but I am happy to be flexible and responsive to each individual and adapt to the way they prefer to learn. Pushing students to attain their respective potentials is literally my day job - so i am well positioned to working with each student to realise their goals. I specialise in human physiology and biology. These topics are crucial for GCSE science, A-Level biology, Medicine, those preparing for an undergraduate degree, or those who are already attending a HE institution but need support.
