Politics, History and Philosophy tutor, two years tutoring experience
You can book a free 20 minute, no-commitment introduction with any of our tutors. How does this work?
I studied Philosophy and Politics at the University of Exeter, graduating in 2017 with a High 2:1. Studying these subjects gave me transferable skills such as the ability to construct cohesive arguments, analyse statements and organise large amounts of information in a succinct way.
For A Level I studied Government and Politics (Grade A), History (A*), Geography (A) and completed an AS in Economics (A). At GCSE I also gained 9 GCSEs A* - A.
After graduating from Exeter I moved to Hong Kong to work as an English teacher for a year, having completed a TEFL course. I chose to do this as I knew it would be an exciting challenge. As the children were young my teaching style was fun and relaxed. The results were brilliant as by the end of the year many of my students were at the same level as native English speakers of the same age.
Teaching English as a foreign language attuned my ability to present complex information in a simplified way and improved my attention to detail with regards to language. I also worked as a private tutor with children aged 18 months to 18 years. I helped a number of children get into the International Schools of their choice and two students study for their GCSE English exams. I really enjoyed watching others achieve their goals and the feeling that I had in some sense helped them with this.
Last year I completed my Graduate Diploma in Law and secured a job at a solicitor's firm in London.
Due to my strong academic background and extensive tutoring experience I believe I am well placed to tutor History, Politics and Philosophy to A Level Standard, particularly with regards to essay writing and exam technique. It took me a long time to develop these skills and I think tutoring would give me the chance to help others to acquire these skills more easily and earlier than I did.
