A bit about Nick O

Hi, My name is Nico and I am a professional Forex trader and former Mathematics teacher in Shanghai, China. Yes, can you believe it...an English guy teaching Mathematics to the Chinese!? Crazy right??? I'm a firm believer in simplifying Maths to an easily understandable format for students of all levels. Most importantly, I like my students to be relaxed and inquisitive in class. Remember, the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask! I specialize in Maths for KS1, KS2, KS3, GCSE and iGCSE. A typical lesson is to follow the curriculum course book, reinforcing the method set out in the text book. Completing the examples and coaching the student to answer the questions along with a slight variation of the original question to demonstrate the method. From here, I will then usually give a real life example to allow the student to see the application in a real life scenario. Upon completion of the questions, I shall double check the understanding and give a summary of the work completed. My teaching style is very relaxed. I encourage my students to engage in dialogue and to feel free to express themselves and speak freely with me regarding course content. My current and former students are very aware that we are here to learn and that I all I require from them is effort. Our relationship is based on mutual respect. Encouragement is very important and therefore it is important to highlight progression, no matter how small. The encouragement builds progression which in turn builds confidence. Once a student feels confident and better in themselves they are more likely to engage and want to achieve things for themselves. Years: 3-11 Exam boards: AQA, Edexcel, OCR & Eduqas Boxing, Electrical Engineering and being dragged around the shops by my wife (allegedly)! I enjoy seeing my student's development week by week and the confidence growing. I would say it's the simplicity of real world application followed by the realization that even the most complicated problem can be broken down into a simple methodology. Simple steps.
