A bit about Samantha E

I provide bespoke 1-2-1 online tuition to enable my students to learn from anywhere in the world! I deliver English tuition using the latest digital technology that Sherpa provides. I provide fun and interactive sessions with the focus on learning and consolidating knowledge. I share video links and learning resources on screen, and upload documents to facilitate students’ understanding of prose, poetry and plays. I find the chat function useful for dual annotation and to share literary definitions. I also use quizzes to test students' knowledge and to keep my sessions fun and interactive. As a private English tutor, I provide bespoke teaching sessions to suit students’ individual needs. I support my students through their studies to improve their confidence to answer essay and exam questions. I teach Ofqual’s assessment objectives, which are to read and respond to texts through the analysis of the language, form and structure, to show relationships between texts and contexts, and to use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect. I help students with comprehension by teaching them textual analysis to improve their interpretative skills and offer a lot of past paper practice. As well as sharing my extensive academic knowledge, I am patient with my students', who respond well to my approach and excel under my tutelage. I have experience teaching EDEXCEL and AQA curriculums, so understand their assessment objectives and mark schemes. I can teach KS3-4 and enjoy helping students' to achieve their academic goals. I teach students’ reading comprehension to facilitate their understanding of words, phrases and sentences in context, and also to explore aspects of plot, characterisation, themes and motifs. My students have full comprehension of the curriculum prose, plays and poetry at the end of our sessions. I teach my students how to analyse any poem by focusing on the form, language, imagery, rhythm/rhyme, tone and subject. My students learn how to recognise the poetic techniques used by poets such as alliteration, assonance, metaphor, caesura etc and include these terms in exam answers. I also teach students how to produce clear arguments and good essay structures, using point, evidence and explanation in each paragraph to back up any points being made. I have a 120 hour TEFL certificate. I have learned about effective classroom management, TEFL methodology and I can use various styles of teaching. I completed a 30 hour grammar course to equip me with the knowledge to teach English as a foreign language, covering past, present and future verb tenses, prepositions, conjunctions and articles. I have a thorough understanding of the rules of English grammar and grammar terminology. My Master/ Bachelor of Arts in English Literature provided guided reading on a wide range of critical approaches to develop my theoretical interests. I covered post-colonial, feminist, literary theory and book history. I can analyse texts and have the ability to articulate this knowledge to others. I communicate meaning to my students to prepare them for forthcoming exams. I have a wide breadth of knowledge about how written communication is shaped by circumstances, authorship and intended audiences. It is useful for students to consider the social, biographical and historical contexts in which plays, poetry and prose were produced to incorporate in their exam answers.
