A bit about Kate W

Hi I’m Kate, it’s nice to meet you! I am an experienced English tutor, writer and published author. I have taught in Secondary Schools for over 8 years now, and have been tutoring since I was 18. I have published a range of material from grammar textbooks for second language learners, young adult novels, children’s books to poetry collections too! I have had experience working with SEN students during my years of teaching, and all classes are designed to suit the needs of the individual student. I specialise in English literature and creative writing! My passion is with books and promoting reading to all ages- in my spare time I review and read a wide range of literature and discuss with my dedicated bookish followers on Instagram. This is a creative space where I can share my love of reading, photography & my shelves upon shelves of classic and also vintage books! We firstly start with having a brief chat about your learning level, topical focus and what you wish to achieve from the lesson. My objective is to help you reach your learning potential (usually I can get an idea within the 1st or 2nd session!) I first started tutoring 10 years ago! Though I mainly focus on secondary students, I have clients ranging from 4yrs old to adult level currently. To spark love and joy in reading and creating -stories, ideas, passions! As well as the achievement a student feels at overcoming a particularly challenging problem. I like to have a good relationship with my students and to know their passions - classes are open spaces with no judgement no matter your level. I like classes to be fun, upbeat and happy spaces for learning! Seeing student’s creations and pride in what they’ve created, as well as enthusiasm and joy in what they’re learning! Confident and competence- for students to gain confidence in the language as well as their belief in their ability to achieve their goals. I’m friendly and easy to chat to- so students feel they can approach and ask me questions without judgement. We can have good laughs, yet still focus on learning! Seeing students make improvement and show pride in their work. May it be drawings (for younger years), poetry, writing pieces, stories or essays. Or simply being able to read a book they initially though was a higher level. There have been so many successes with my students! I love making nano lego, and going out into nature! My favourite movies are "Back to the Future" and "Stardust", and I own a hedgehog and a turtle as pets! My grandparents and parents were also teachers. I can say that it's truly in my blood! It might sound cliche to say as teachers we want to share knowledge and help others learn, but it's deeper than that. Being a teacher helps foster different skill sets useful for the future- how to communicate well with others, to treat others with respect and kindness and have a good attitude towards life, decision making, efficiency, time management and so on!
