A bit about Tony H

I am a fully qualified Computer Science and ICT Teacher with 3 years experience within SEMH and SEN schools, dealing with ASD, ADHD, ODD, GDD and students with complex needs. I have a background in Digital Audio and generally into anything creative! I've been involved in all sorts of projects, from Audio, Video, Web Design, Graphic Design and related and love anything cool and tech related. My specialist subject is Computing and ICT, although I have strong experience in a number of other subjects, including Music, Music Technology, Creative Media, PSHE, Social Studies, English and Maths I know that learning can sometimes be hard going, so I use a number of tools to keep it as engaging and exciting for students as possible. Students are developing skill sets for jobs of the future, I like to maintain the relevance of that to them throughout all my lessons. Once they understand this, and how ICT is relevant to them learning becomes about developing themselves for the future. I have been a classroom teacher for over 6 years, and for the last 2 years have been delivering one to one tuition either face to face or remotely. Delivering remotely can have its challenges but overall as long as technology is used correctly this can be as engaging if not even more for some students than face to face Computing and ICT is a rapidly changing and dynamic subject but it is something that is part of everyones daily life. I think it is essential for a young people to be digitally literate and know more skills than searching for a YouTube video! Digital creativity is at the heart of so many of today and tomorrows jobs. Although I like to think of myself as engaging and dynamic in my learning style, truth be told I base my style around the student I am working with if this is on a one to one basis. Every student has their own learning style, and it is important for me to recognise this and tailor my sessions accordingly. The 'penny drop' moment for sure. Seeing a student finally achieve or grasp a skill or concept that they have been perhaps struggling with is great. It gives them such excitement and hunger for learning which is what it's all about for me. I went into tutoring to help students achieve skills they think they can't. The aim of all I do is to help these young people find their own passion for learning. Whether it's a new skill, a new software, a new way of looking at a task that they had not thought of before. My ideal position is a middle-man in helping and supporting these young people in discovering subjects they are passionate about which will ultimately help carve their successful career path in role they love. I am very good at developing a rapport, I can usually always find a subject of interest to these young people that I have some knowledge of, whether Music, Gaming, Art but it is also good to learn new things if you find a student who has a more unusual hobby! Overall I am quite relaxed as long as work and assignments are completed we can always throw in a Quiz or Game to test knowledge in a fun way! It's very hard to define my greatest success, academically I helped a entire struggling for grades Year 11 add another qualification to their final grades by delivering the ECDL Course (European Computer Driving Licence) which at the time was recognised as a GCSE equivalent. I delivered the course and managed to get 255 students through majority distinction*. A lot of my successes have been helping individual students overcome barriers to their learning and progress and develop beyond what they felt they could. I hold an Honours Degree in Digital Sound and Media. This was based on my interest in Music and Music Production and allowed me to cover a wide range of skills, including Live Sound Operations and Engineering, Camerawork, Video Editing, Web Development alongside developing my Digital Production skills with a major module being producing 30 mins worth of Digital music, using a number of production skills. I then completed initial Teacher Training in the subject of Computer Science and ICT and hold QTS status. The birth of my own daughter, my own enjoyment of always learning, the sense of achievement in helping shape someones life, there are a lot of things and feelings that inspired me to be a teacher. Since starting that journey I am even more inspired to try and help students learn their own way, encourage their own creativity and support them on that path. I'm very family orientated and have a daughter who has just turned 18, so to be honest she is quite self sufficient these days! I like to make and produce music, playing guitar, keyboards and bass. I like all things digitally creative, video editing, animation, music technology, I'm a tech nerd! I also like to get outside with nature as much as possible, walking and foraging! Blackberries, Elderberries, whatever's in season! I can teach from KS2-KS4, although I have had experience of KS5 this would probably be only ICT. I am trained in Computer Science and ICT and have taught these subjects across multiple exam boards including OCR (J276), Edexcel, AQA and Pearson. I have also taught and delivered AQA Units, Functional Skills and the ECDL Course.
