A bit about Julia C

I have 20 years English teaching experience including: teaching English as a 2nd language; GCSE English Language; A level English Language; Creative Writing; Functional Skills; English Skills booster for parents. I have recently completed an MA in Creative Writing (graduating 19.10.21). I have gained a: 1st class BA (hons) degree in English (major) with English Language Teaching (minor); PGCE in Further Education; TESOL Trinity College Certificate. I was awarded a grade A as an AQA A level English Language examiner. I am able to adapt my knowledge to any exam specifications, and am currently tutoring on Edexcel, OCR and AQA specifications. I have been tutoring Chinese children from Beijing on Zoom since December 2019. I teach GCSE English Language using Teams for Adult Education. I am currently writing a historical novel and proofreading an autobiography. In non-pandemic times, I host and tutor International students at home. English language is still my passion. The structure of language has always been a passion of mine. Having recently studied Creative Writing I particularly enjoy sharing ways of reading to inspire writing. I am fascinated by the effects of language techniques. The subject is diverse and remains fresh. English Language lessons can be adapted to suit students' interests in 1:1 or small group sessions and so provides opportunities to engage learners. The sessions broaden my own reading and perspectives too. I aim to encourage and support students to increase their confidence in their abilities. I enjoy adding in a few silly examples to demonstrate a point. I prepare a lesson plan that matches the specific exam criteria and use it as a guide. I avoid lecturing but am more than happy to explain. I encourage students to ask questions and offer a range of activities to develop students' skills. I am flexible according to the students' responses and needs. Tutoring provides the opportunity for immediate feedback and development of ideas. I aim to foster a positive learning environment and to raise achievement of the specific GCSE Assessment Objectives. Learning is a life long skill. Encouragement is key to a student's success. As a tutor I aim to foster a positive and productive learning environment. If I can interest and inspire a student to be curious about my subject then they will be ready to learn. The level of success and the definition of success may vary from student to student.
