A bit about Paul S

I specialise in GCSE and KS3 mathematics. I have an in-depth knowledge of all the exam boards and what it takes to get the best grades. Being a first class maths graduate I find that I have a deep understanding of the concepts and can explain things in several different ways. I have over seven years experience in tutoring maths and am always patient and understanding with my students. I love it when you get the "A-ha!" moment with a student. When the concept finally clicks into place and you get a deep satisfaction that you have made a difference and that the student has made progress. I love being able to meet such a wide range of great people. I have tutored all the way from career changers wanting to revisit maths in order to start a training course, right down to primary school children where you get the privilege to hopefully contribute to their lifelong love of learning. I am a proud father of four so that takes up a lot of my spare time! I am also a keen cyclist though and like to get out and about whenever possible. Every one of us is different and so are our goals. I may be working with a GCSE student who is wanting to not only secure a top grade, where we will be doing lots of practice exam questions, but is also embarking on A-level maths the following year, in which case we can "look ahead" to which concepts are introduced in year 12 and how best to prepare for them. Many students may really struggle with maths and simply need to secure a decent pass at GCSE in order to access their next steps in education or training post-16. In any case I believe that we learn best in an interactive environment, and therefore I like to have my students tackling questions and problems themselves as soon as possible, safe in the knowledge that I am always there as an expert guide when needed. I have a flexible approach and the lesson structure can totally depend on the student. A lot of the time we will work alongside what the student is doing in school/college, possibly going into greater detail or just going back over concepts that they may have not fully understood in class. For students approaching exam time, specific exam practice is king, and we will work through lots of exam questions in order to get a feel for how the topics are examined and how best to prepare for the big day.
