A bit about Elizabeth S

I qualified as a teacher in the UK in the 1990s and have a B.Ed Hons degree. I taught in a variety of schools, Pupil Referral Units and a Post 16 Education Provider along with privately tutoring students with Maths, English and Music before moving to Spain in 2017. I have taught for 3 years in International Schools since relocating, the majority of this has been secondary Maths teaching, and delivered lessons on line during lockdown. In addition to teaching key stage 3 and 4, I feel confident I could help Key Stage 2 children. In terms of examinations I have taught Functional Skills and GCSE in England and more recently IGCSE in Spain. I believe I am particularly skilled at raising the grades for students who find the subject challenging. An example being that 3 Year 11 students whom I tutored for 6 months leading up to their IGCSEs during the last academic year, 2 increased their grades by 2 levels and 1 by 3 levels. I can also offer help with English and Music. My approach is child centred and flexible. I am comfortable with providing resources and curriculum plans or helping students with work they have from school. As I have stated my degree is in music but my passion is Maths so I prefer to specialise with that as my first subject. I have experience of GCSE and IGCSE alongside a strong understanding of SEN and SEMH. I enjoy interaction with my students and I try to make Mathematics fun and show how numbers really can be very enjoyable with a solution to many problems. I generally begin with starter activities that introduce the topic and then produce activities that are age appropriate. I always have extra tasks, for example simpler tasks for students who need reinforcement and advanced material for those who grasp concepts quickly. A recap of teaching points and a quick insight of what future lessons on the topic will consist of can be helpful. I also supply students with a RAG rating system of their perceived knowledge and reinforcement activities to consolidate knowledge. I began tutoring as a peripatetic Music tutor prior to qualifying as a teacher. I have 25 years teaching experience I only started tutoring again, this time with ICT plaftorms, around 2 years ago during the first lock down of the COVID pandemic and I was surprised how I enjoyed it. I believe that there are disadvantages in large group learning situations but have found it a very user friendly tool when working with small groups and individual learners.
