A bit about Esme L

I have taught AQA at GCSEs and at A-Level ('Macbeth', 'An Inspector Calls', 'Power and Conflict Poetry', 'A Christmas Carol', and language papers, '1984', 'The Handmaids Tale', 'Frankenstein', 'Wuthering Heights', 'The Bloody Chamber', 'A Midsummer Nights Dream', 'The Bell Jar', 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'). I have also taught KS3 reading and writing using a wide range of texts (including 'A Monster Calls', 'The Whale Rider', 'Of Mice and Men', 'Animal Farm', Shakespeare for KS3, the list goes on). Lastly, I have worked with KS2 students one-to-one reading and writing lessons. My post-graduate studies were framed around encouraging authentic, creative engagement in English. I'm a strong believer in social equity in education. My aim in the classroom is to support students as they grow into literate, critical and culturally engaged young adults. QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). PGDE (Post Graduate Diploma in Education) from University College London. BA English Literature from Royal Holloway University of London. A Levels English (AQA), Psychology (WJEC), Art History (Edexcel) from Leyton Sixth Form. Teaching English means preparing learners to express themselves in the world and make a difference in the subject they’re most passionate about. Verbal and written communication is key to all learners and professionals, and I want to help everyone to see the true value in that. This subject is vital for clarity and creativity. As well being practical, English is also vital for our culture – reading, writing, analysing and simply enjoying different medias (books, articles, movies, song lyrics, etc) is something everyone can appreciate. I began tutoring shortly after my own GCSE results, I began with friends and soon developed a love for it. Coming from a very mixed area of London so many of my friends had English as a second language or moved schools making exam revision more complicated. It felt so fulfilling to know I played a part in them reaching their potential at GCSE!
