A bit about Alana

Hi! My name is Alana. I am English and American. I have been teaching for over 4 years now. I have a passion for teaching English and have a diverse experience sharing my knowledge. From teaching English to all ages in Vietnamese public schools to lecturing about business English in corporations to tutoring in women’s empowerment charities to helping underprivileged children in India to online teaching for Chinese students. I enjoy seeing my students grow and flourish which is why motto is ‘all you can try is to try’, which I aim to incorporate into all my classes! My favourite way to teach is through games, singing and laughter because if my students are happy learning then I am happy teaching! I specialise in English language and teaching English as a foreign language because I am able to articulate clear techniques to get beginners engaged and remembering key information. I also have a first class BA hons degree in business and have worked with many corporations to teach business English so I can help adults or young adults use business English to their advantage. Normally, we do a little warm up/brainteaser. We review previous topics and ensure we can remember the material. I, then, present what we are learning and talk about it. We practice through games, videos, songs, realistic materials and props. We review and apply it to the individual students' needs then we practice once more. Lastly, we warm down with a silly tongue twister or memorable game to ensure we feel confident with the class we have just been in. I started teaching English over 5 years ago and have been tutoring a variation of ages. From working in a Vietnamese public school teaching English to 40 students to assisting in a UK secondary school classroom and teaching online for over 2.5 years to young learners in China, I have a wide range of experience in the classroom. Since graduating, I have travelled 3 continents where I have worked in a variety of places such as volunteering in a women’s shelter in Ho Chi Minh City to practice conversation, tutoring advanced corporate staff in business English and volunteering for charities in India where I taught English in underprivileged schools.
