Tell us a bit about yourself.

Tim has taught Maths and English in England, Africa and Australia. Most of his time has been spent teaching Maths up to A-level, and English up to GCSE. He has several hundred hours of tutoring experience, both online and face-to-face.

What do you specialise in?

I love the rapport that develops when I am teaching. I have taught many subjects but I always prefer the subjects that relate to my teaching qualification, (as a Secondary School Maths Teacher, with English as my second subject).

How do your lessons usually plan out?

I normally start with a short chat a a 'warm-up', (and I don't mean jumping up and down!). Many of my students are preparing for exams in a few months, so I normally set the agenda according to their requests. This may mean working through past exam papers, or revising important theory. If the student is learning new theory, I slow down, and I am very thorough. My mission is to give lessons of the highest quality lessons and to make them enjoyable.

When did you first start tutoring?

I used to tutor alongside my busy life as a Maths Teacher in schools. I enjoyed the tutoring so much, I now spend more time tutoring than teaching in schools!

What is your teaching style?

I am thorough but friendly

What do students love most about your teaching style?

My exam students just love the good results they get. Younger students enjoy the fun they have whilst learning.

What is the greatest success you've had with teaching?

My greatest success recently was helping an A level student get into Medical School. They had mock exam results of D,D,D, and around 4 months later got into medical school with A,A and A. I also coached and mentored this student with study skills.

Which relevant qualifications do you have?

I am a UK-qualified Secondary School Maths Teacher, with a 'second subject' specialisation in English. My original degree was in Engineering Science from the University of Exeter.

What inspired you to become a teacher?

I love explaining things, and I am a 'people-person'.

What are your interests outside of teaching?

I love playing and watching most sports. I love cooking, and I am a qualified chef.

What exam boards and year groups do you teach?

I have taught all the major UK boards. I have taught Edexcel and Cambridge IGCSEs, and helped around 6 students prepare for the American University Entrance Exam.
