A bit about Holly D

I am a highly enthusiastic and energetic individual who specialises in mathematics and PE. I have taught abroad for two years and an additional 2 years in the UK. I currently teach mathematics for all years within a secondary school down in Kent. I specialise within Mathematics and physical education. Can cover KS3/4 curriculum for mathematics. I plan for as much involvement of the student as possible, using a variety of activities, games and videos to extend knowledge and understanding. Lessons will be catered to the pupils interests and their preferred way to learn. I taught abroad for two years, tutoring children out in China. The initial year was a complete eye opener and started my passion for tutoring. I love the fact that mathematics have a variety of methods and solutions to solve a problem. Once you can understand the methods you can solve any question. My teaching style is very energetic and packed with activities. I love teaching through stages to show the method step by step and provide a variety of examples to show different levels of learning. I love seeing the ‘penny drop’ when students understand something that they found difficult. Every lesson is a success in my eyes. Teaching is an incredible job that allows myself to teach new skills every day, which students develop in their own time and will use for their rest of their life’s. Every lesson students will have success in something, no matter how small. I studied PE and sports coaching at the university of chichester. I then completed my 7-14 PGCE in both primary and secondary settings, which extended my ability to teach all ages for mathematics and PE. During my teaching experience I have taught all ages for mathematics, particularly KS2/3. My primary school year 5 teacher inspired me to be a teacher. She was full of energy and became an inspirational role model for me to look up too. This continued throughout my secondary school experience, allowing me to find my passion within sports and teaching other people. My interests outside of teaching are sports. I play for my local hockey club and take every opportunity to play other sports with friends. I love socialising and finding new skills to learn. At the moment I teach KS3 mathematics. Year 7s and 8s are aiming to develop their knowledge to ‘Mastered’ level to get them in good stead for their GCSE maths during years 9-11. During the lessons, I teach using the AQA test papers to show students questions similar to the GCSE paper to develop their understanding of mathematical terms and questions.
