A bit about Martin E

I have taught science at KS3 and GCSE for the last 7 years. I specialise in Biology, but as a science teacher, I have taught Physics and Chemistry up to GCSE level too. I have worked with students studying the AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards, for students studying foundation and higher papers in Triple Science and Combined science. For students in Years 7, 8 and 9, I also help prepare you for GCSE content that you will be studying once you've chosen your options, so you can get a head start on some of the work! A typical lesson with me will start with a recap of what was covered in previous sessions to make sure you remember the important information. Then we look at the topic we'll be focusing on in the session, recapping anything you already know about it. Once we've covered the key points, I'll link this to real world examples to make it easier for you understand and remember. Then we look at some exam-style questions so that you can see how the topic is usually assessed and give you confidence that if any questions come up on it, you'll be able to handle it! I've been teaching for 7 years and tutoring for the last 4 years, for students from year 8 up to year 11. Students I've tutored have been focused on anything from catching up on topics they have missed due to being absent from school or extra help preparing for GCSE exams. I have often been contacted when students underperform in their mock exams to help them to brush on their science knowledge, revision skills and exam technique, so that they are able to get their target grades when the real exams come round! I like being able to help students understand topics that they haven't been able to get the hang of yet. It's great when a student comes to me confused about something and leaves being able to answer questions about that topic. I also find it very rewarding helping students to plan their revision and giving them techniques to help them get on top of their revision and homework so that they have more time to spend doing things they enjoy! Although I have been a teacher and a tutor for a long time, I haven't always been a teacher. I studied Veterinary Science at University and then went on to a Masters degree in Marine Ecology, which enabled me to work on research projects in the middle east and the Seychelles. One job involved surveying sharks and other fish on coral reefs in the Seychelles, living on a tiny island and scuba diving every day! Eventually though, in 2015, I moved back home and studied to become a teacher, hoping to inspire young scientists to follow their passion and see where they could end up working one day!
