A bit about Lucy R

I love helping students learn French and specialise in tutoring from KS2 level up to adult learners, mostly online but also in people's homes where preferred. My background is in tuition and communication - both verbal and written - so I'm a true wordsmith and love helping students of all ages learn the beautiful French language. My lessons are fun and engaging but also driven by achieving the results desired by my students. From KS2 to A level and everything in between! I've been teaching French on and off for over 25 years and I'm committed to constantly learning more about the language myself and keeping up to date with its changes and evolutions. In order to integrate the use of slang, informal and everyday expressions into my lessons, I use a huge range of resource materials to make lessons interesting, topical and useful. When I graduated I used French in my first job and realised that it was where my passion lay so I joined a few agencies, started to advertise in my local area and soon got a variety of students of all ages and abilities. Ever since then, I've honed my teaching skills and developed an excellent knowledge of school curricula which enables me to help students achieve their academic goals. I tailor each lesson to the individual student's needs and make sure that I include some speaking, some listening, some reading and writing into the lessons. I use my sense of humour to build rapport and listen attentively to my students' needs. I recently helped an A level student improve his grade from a B to an A within 3 months which enabled him to get into the London School of Economics so he was delighted! I have a BA Joint Honours degree (2:1) in French and History of Art, A levels in French, English and History of Art, 10 GCE O levels including French and English I love long walks in the countryside and on the beach with my greyhound Jake and I have two teenagers who always make me laugh! I am passionate about reading, particularly thrillers and mysteries, and I love learning - I'm currently teaching myself Spanish! What I love about being a tutor is having the 1-1 or small group dynamic which allows me to have plenty of 'ah-ha' or 'eureka' moments where students finally understand something they've been struggling with in class or in their home study. It's so rewarding when that happens, also when students achieve their personal or academic goals, to think I've played a small part in their success is wonderful.
