A bit about Liv H

I believe that everyone is different and, therefore, that everyone has a different way they like to work. I am dedicated to helping my students find this way as well as sharing my passion for the subject and, hopefully, having a little fun along the way. I am passionate about teaching because I benefitted from insanely good teachers myself who inspired me and encouraged me to pursue my interests with confidence. I have also acquired a lot of expertise, essay writing technique and analytical skills from my studies at university that I wish to share in the hopes it will make life easier for people studying Literature and History. My teaching style is first and foremost student led. Everyone needs something different from a tutor and it is my job to be that person. I also believe that you can only learn in a relaxed environment so I like to encourage a healthy dose of fun! I also see how confidence is a major component of learning (especially when it comes to exams) and this is something I dedicate time into encouraging in my students - trust in themselves and in their abilities. I have also recently been a student so I understand how challenging exams and studying can be. I have been tutoring for three years and before that I worked in secondary schools for two years. I first started tutoring after working in a secondary school as a one to one pastoral and educational assistant. I found that through tutoring and one to one support I could develop a better working relationship with my students as well as getting to know them well enough so I could know how to provide mentoring alongside the academic work. I worked one to one with a vulnerable girl in foster care for eighteen months and she successfully sat all of her GCSE exams and is now attending college. I have also just had one of my English A-Level students get into her first choice university to study English. I specialise in English Literature! It is one of my favourite subject and I also took my degree in it. I love English Lit because it is so versatile. You can study novels, poems and plays throughout time from all over the world. It also touches on every human issue imaginable so I believe everyone can always find something of interest. I also believe it also encourages empathy and intrigue into the human condition which can only benefit us as people. I also specialise in History. It is another one of my favourite subjects and I love it because it allows us learn in detail about events in history and understand how they effect us today. It feeds so much into why I like English Literature as I believe it helps us understand ourselves a little better. I love English Lit because it is so versatile. Both these subjects spark conversation and debate offering the opportunity to learn something new and maybe to consider where other people are coming from. These are good life skills. I am an actor, comedian and a writer. I run an international theatre company with three friends from drama school dedicated to telling diverse and inclusive stories from all four of our different cultures. I studied English Literature at King's College London and received a First Class Honours. I also studied for a three year course called AKC (Associate of King's College) which was a three year History, Ethics, Religion and Philosophy course running alongside my degree. After graduating, I worked in schools and started tutoring in 2018 and continued throughout drama school and now I do it full time. I teach AQA, Edexcel/Pearson, OCR and Cambridge International. I also have some experience with WJEC. I teach A-Level, GCSE and KS3. I am also an experience ESL teacher. I have a First Class Honours Degree from King's College London. I also studied for a three year course called AKC (Associate of King's College) which was a three year History, Ethics, Religion and Philosophy course running alongside my degree. I also studied playwriting at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre as part of their Young Writer's Programme for two years after university. I worked in a secondary school for eighteen months and received Safeguarding and attachment training.
