A bit about Sean M

Recently retired English Teacher. Have tons of experience (25 years) teaching all aspects of KS3, GCSE and A-Level English courses. Very popular with my students. Interested in reading and cinema, as well as watching and participating in many sports (it used to be mainly football, nowadays I play a lot of golf). Key Stage 3 (11-14 years), KS4 (GCSE 14-16 years), and A-Level English Language and Literature - all modules of all courses. Boys' Mentor at my school (ages 14-16) for the past 7 years. I've been responsible for creating and facilitating the Schemes of Work at my school/college for many years. My lessons have always been meticulously planned and structured, their delivery adapted to the needs and circumstances of the students in my care. I've been a class/registration tutor from 1997-2021, responsible also for my students' pastoral care. These past 7 years (2014-2021) I created/fulfilled a more one-to-one and specialized small group role, helping students who were deemed to be not fulfilling their potential. Interacting with and supporting the development and ultimate attainment of my students. Conveying my love of the subject in a manner that engages and inspires the next generation. My style is always open to adaptation. With my level and range of experience, I have often been responsible for the highest ability A-Level students in one room, then perhaps in the next lesson being asked to look after the most challenging KS3 or KS4 class. I am particularly proud of my ability to find the correct tone to engage and inspire across differing ages groups and abilities. Assisting, empathizing, and engaging with students in a more focused fashion. The development of more focused attention I find tends to inspire more interest and fulfillment of potential with my students in such an environment. The relationships one develops along the way leads, I find, lends itself also to further fulfillment of a students' academic abilities. To adapt my teaching style to each individuals' needs. To teach in an empathetic manner that illustrates both enthusiasm and knowledge of English. To recognize the strengths and any obvious weaknesses of my students, then to guide and teach them in a fashion which best suits the potential for positive outcomes, enjoyment, and attainment in this subject. My deep knowledge of the subject, but perhaps most, my ability to engage well relative to all age ranges and abilities. I am often told and realize that I have always been perceived as very popular across the age ranges, to find the correct academic balance, but also use humour well to lighten the tone when appropriate. The attainment of and relationships I've built with the students in my care. English Studies Degree (BA Hons). PGCE in English Education. To work with, engage, and inspire young people. I felt that with my qualifications and personality, that I would be a most suitable person to help young people to fulfil their potential, but also enjoy the journey with me. My family. Reading, sports, travel, theatre, and cinema. I am lucky to have many friends and an active social life also. Year groups 7-13 inclusive, all abilities (ages 11-18 years). KS3, GCSE and A-Level (English Language and Literature). We teach to the AQA exam board at my school/college for English. I am also an examiner for the AQA.
