A bit about Elizabeth H

I have taught Biology at secondary schools for 22 years, covering a range of abilities up to and including A* pupils at A level. I have taught classes of 30 and tutored both small groups and individuals, including many with SEN such as ADHD and Dyslexia. I have a wide range of resources to help you with your learning whatever level you are aiming at or starting from. I developed my interest in Biology at University and put this into practice initially by working as an advisor for the ministry of agriculture. A few years later I moved into teaching as a more rewarding career and have not looked back! I believe in developing confidence in pupils through a structured and supportive learning environment and feel my extensive experience and caring manner allows me to do this whether face to face or on an online platform. Now I am lucky enough to live in the Lake District I spend much of my spare time outside walking the fells and more recently swimming in the many lakes and tarns! I am a calm and meticulous teacher, breaking down problems to ensure the pupils develop an excellent synoptic understanding of the Biology course. I believe question practice is the best way to develop the skills needed for todays exams and I base my tutoring around this. In addition I encourage an interest and thirst to learn more about the subject as this will help the pupils going forward. The greatest successes in teaching come when some one achieves even more than they thought possible. One pupil I particularly remember struggled with A level at the start but with incredible hard work on her part and lots of individual tutoring and encouragement finally made it through to her dream university course to become a medic. Another pupil many years ago couldn't see the point of science GCSE and was a very reluctant learner, only when persuaded that it opened doors for her and was not for the benefit of her parents or me did she go on to revise hard and achieve the grades she needed.
