A bit about Lima

I currently teach KS3 and KS4 at a secondary school in inner London. I have taught the AQA specification at GCSE level for the past 3 years and have recently been an examiner for AQA which makes me aware of what students need to do in order to achieve top marks for a range of different questions. In my previous school, I have taught the A-level Edexcel specification for the past 2 years. My teaching style can be summarised in 3 simple words, teach, check and apply. I believe that it's important to make sure that students understand the purpose of what is being taught e.g. why they are studying this topic/unit/theme, followed by checking students understanding through questioning, short activities etc. Lastly, ensuring students are able to do apply the new/previous knowledge that they have learnt to an exam questions that may possibly come up for the topic/theme they are studying. Alongside this retrieval/recall of previous knowledge is also very important and therefore I always like to have a starter activity which is related to the learning students have done in the previous sessions, this also gives me to opportunity to address any misconceptions that may arise. I have been tutoring since my first year of university with a tuition centre called Quantum but for the last two years, I have been tutoring privately online specialising in GCSE and A-level Geography. There are many element of my subject that I love teaching. Firstly, it has to be the current affairs that are happening around the world that are related to geography such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. It gives student the opportunity to apply the theories and conceptual idea that they have learnt to real-life context. An example of this could be earthquakes or volcanic eruptions that occur in other countries. Additional, to this the skill sets it provides students with which they may need later in life such as analytical skills, mathematic skills, team building skills from fieldwork conducted and much more.
