A bit about Teri F

I am a highly experienced tutor and professional author who has successfully tutored students to the highest levels. I have tutored students for entrance to some of the most prestigious schools and colleges and for elevating their grades for GCSE English Language and Literature. As a professional author I specialise in masterclasses to teach the secrets of storytelling and creative writing for examinations and for building confidence and skills for aspiring authors. My specialist areas are English Language, English Literature and Creative writing. I also have a special interest in helping students with dyslexia developing confidence and skills for Reading and all aspects of English Language. During your first session, I will undertake a assessment of your present skills, using a combination of professional standardised tests and qualitative assessment . I will also take the time to discuss with you the areas where you feel you lack confidence and skills. I will then draw up a plan of action to help you to attain the success you wish to achieve. I have been working in the field of education for over 20 years and was the principal of a group of schools for many years. I have been tutoring a select number of students since I sold my schools in order to work on other projects in education. I am keen to work with those students who wish to work hard to achieve their personal best. I am passionate about the art of writing and helping students to find the joy in writing also - especially those students who lacked confidence and felt that they would never be good at it, but then discovered the joy of writing and blossomed into eloquent, creative writers. It is also very rewarding when I can help a student to elevate their skills to attain higher grades and pass entrance examinations to the best schools. I take a holistic approach to teaching students, since everyone is different in the way that they think and learn. By carrying out an indepth assessment during our first session, I am able to gain a greater understanding of your individual needs, concerns and aspirations which can help me to tailor your sessions with me accordingly. I enjoy being able to help students build confidence and skills and find success in whatever they wish to achieve. It has been a joy to watch students growing in confidence and gaining the success they have worked so hard to achieve. One of my most recent rewards came from a severely dyslexic student who recently achieved the an A* grade for her English GCSE examination. My philosophy is very much geared to my holistic style of teaching ie that everyone has their own unique potential. I have seen both personally and through the experience of teaching a wide range of students that, if you set you mind to achieve something (that might seem initially difficult or even impossible) that with hard work and a positive attitude, you can succeed. Part of my job is to build confidence and help my students find the right mindset to succeed. I always like to bring some level of humour into my teaching style. I am a great believer that learning should be fun and enjoyable - otherwise, whatever you learn tends to go in one ear and out the other. However, alongside making my sessions as enjoyable as possible, I expect my students to work hard and complete assignments on time. There may, of course, be occasions when you find a challenging topic to be not quite so enjoyable, that's until you rise to the challenge and start to find it easier and more enjoyable with my guidance. I studied developmental psychology at university and became interested in the different ways that people learn. I subsequently undertook research into the subject - ie the way children learn maths and the difficulties dyslexic children experience with the written word. Becoming a tutor developed from all of this. I am also a qualified stress management and natural health practitioner - part of which also helps me to prepare my students more effectively for coping with the pressures of studying for examinations. I am also a professional author and have written storybooks for children as well as books and articles on health related topics. I have experience in teaching and preparing curriculum programs for children from pre-school through to GCSE. This cover KS1,2,3 and 4 (GCSE). The main GCSE boards have been AQA and IGCSE, although I have, periodically, worked with other boards. I have tutored children from many parts of the world - such as China, India, Russia, Dubai as well as the UK. I am also familiar working with the American Common Core curriculum, having produced material for a US focused educational website.
