A bit about Lauren W

I am a happy, enthusiastic teacher with a love for learning. I have taught all year groups within the Primary phase, in a range of different schools, with good experience of Key Stage 1 and 2 SATs, 11+ entry exams and working with children with a vast array of Special Educational Needs. I specialise in teaching the Primary phases of Key stage 1 and 2. English and maths are my favourite subjects to teach. I also tutor children up to 11 in preparing for SATs and entrance exams. I plan individual lessons in order to cater for my student's needs and abilities. However, I am also very flexible in adapting lessons throughout where needed. Each lesson will contain an element of fun such as a game or challenge activity with learning around the objective being covered. I like to recap and consolidate previous learning too. I have been teaching in the classroom for 11 years, but decided to step out and into tutoring this year. After adapting to teaching online during Covid, I found a real enjoyment for tutoring online. I really enjoy seeing children progress in both English and maths. Using the foundations to build and enrich their learning in order to be able to become a critical thinker and independent learner. Seeing how well a child succeeds in their learning makes my job so worthwhile. I love to plan fun and engaging lessons that the children will enjoy and remember. I believe that lessons that contain a practical element to them can help consolidate the children's learning. I like to be as approachable as possible so the child feels at ease in the lesson, as a positive mindset allows for growth when learning. My favourite thing about being a teacher is building a positive learning environment for the children to work in and a trusting relationship in order for them to achieve their absolute best. Just spending time with children who love to learn - there is nothing better! No glass ceilings! Children should never be limited and only ever encouraged to meet their full potential in everything they do. I am always positive, even when giving tricky feedback to children on completion of their work. I like the children to feel relaxed and confident to be able to speak to me about their learning and anything they feel might be holding them back. When teaching year 2 for four years I was moderated by the DfE on deliverance of the latest curriculum. The children throughout that time all achieved their goals in the Key Stage 1 SATs which was a really proud moment for me. BA Hons in Primary Education from the University of Winchester I remember my very own year 3 teacher (Mrs Wilson) teaching us the most fun and engaging lessons. She took us on many schools trips and introduced me to music that remains some of my favourite music to date. I am currently learning British Sign language which I am really enjoying. Linked to this, I am also part of a signing choir where we sign to songs at local events to raise money for charity. I teach the entire Primary phase from ages 4-11. I am also currently training in supporting children in the 11+ exams.
