A bit about David F

Have a degree in conservation biology and ecology. Speciality subject would be ecosystems and animal adaptations. Very proficient in all plant and human anatomy and physiology Have taught in the UK, USA, Germany, China and Australia. Currently working in a SEND school specialising in Autism, can accompany students of all ages, abilities and backgrounds I am relatively new to tutoring but currently have a student aiming for Grade 9 in Biology Lessons often start with a discussing about science news in the week, I pick a recent article that I believe the student would find interesting. We then move onto the subjects selected by the student. I try to get the student to tell me all they know at each subtopic. This improves recall, useful for exams and also gives me an idea of previous subject knowledge. I embed some exam questions throughout and we work through the mark scheme together working on exam technique. If we cover something of particular interest to the student I think its great to delve into this passion and we may do some joint exploring of the topic. Lessons end with recapping content I love teaching about the natural world as it is vastly underappreciated and understood. Learning biology allows students to be in awe of things they may have previously thought was ordinary. Secondly our planets biodiversity varies so much from country to country because of varying climates. Through teaching biology students can also virtually travel the world and learn about different habitats Enthusiastic and engaging. However will always plan challenging lessons as I encourage my students to make mistakes which they can learn from. Try to create autonomy when possible so get the student as involved as possible, I am the opposite of a transmissive teacher and want to increase student talking time about the subject as much as possible Firstly, building relationships with students as this is paramount to success. I enjoy witnessing short and long term improvement in my students but ultimately working with a student to discover a passion is what I love most about educating Every student has more potential than they realise, If fuelled with the right knowledge and self belief they can achieve their dreams. I think the student themselves should be at the centre of this discovery on potential and this is how I structure my educating The safe environment I create that enables students to attempt challenges and not be afraid to fail. I always pursue a passion of a student and try to incorporate it whenever possible. I am great with people of all backgrounds so can always find common ground to chat about. The ability to weave science and education into building relationships with students is my greatest strength Overcoming huge language and cultural barriers to become the Head of PE in a school in Chengdu, China QTS in secondary science education Our natural world is one of great interest and fascination but it is under threat. The next generation have the ability to save our plant and restore its beauty I love sports, I play football, tennis, golf and swimming I love camping, hiking and the outdoors Have been fortunate enough to have travelled a lot All ages Happy to plan lessons for any exam board
