A bit about Keli S

Hi my name is Keli, I am a passionate, experienced primary school teacher with over 13 years teaching experience. Born and raised in London; my teaching experience is based in Westminster and East London. I have been Maths subject lead for over 7 years, gaining an extensive knowledge and understanding of the Maths Primary curriculum with a focus on the mastery Maths teaching approach which is currently embedded within the Primary National curriculum. I love teaching Maths and creating fun, engaging yet challenging Maths tasks. I have experience of planning, delivering and teaching all subjects within the English National Curriculum; including the teaching of phonics and early mathematics. I have a sound knowledge and understanding of the statutory requirements of the KS1 and KS2 SATs assessments and I am able to use this information to help create meaningful tutoring sessions. Over the last 10 years, I have provided 1 to 1 and group booster/tutoring sessions in preparation for the KS2 SATs focusing on challenging misconceptions, closing the gaps and greater depth concepts. I passionately believe in the importance of providing children with the knowledge, confidence and tools to be successful learner. I will focus on identify the strengths and weaknesses of a child using appropriate assessment materials and use this information to plan engaging lessons which provide children with an opportunity to succeed. I use visual teaching strategies to model and demonstrate key concepts which are in line with the national curriculum expectations. I specialise in primary Maths and English tutoring, with a specific focus on preparation for the key stage one and two SATs. In addition to this, I can provide focus on preparation for the 11+ exams and early (Reception/Year 1) reading, writing, phonics and maths support. My lesson are planned focusing on developing confidence and knowledge to grasp misconceptions. Within our first session, I like to identify gaps/misconceptions and use this information to plan sessions using interactive lessons where I use a combination of questioning and modelling to support learning. I started teaching in 2008 and have been tutoring and providing 1:1 and group interventions since 2017. These sessions have been in school, focusing on Year 5/6 Maths preparation for key stage two SATs tests. I love being able to support pupils to gain confidence, knowledge and understanding of an or a subject they didn't have before. The key part for me, is watching pupils grow and thrive, gaining independence and confidence to approach a problem or question. My teaching style is an interactive, using visuals and question prompts to support learning. In particular, I like to use aspects of mastery maths to breakdown mathematical concepts and procedures. My favourite thing about being a tutor is being able to make a positive impact on a pupils learning journey. We all have our strengths and weaknesses; let foster those strengths and develop those weaknesses. I think students love the questioning and interactive approach; I like to ensure that students feel like they are in control of their learning journey. I have a first class BA honours in Primary Teaching with qualified teaching status. My greatest success when teaching was when I was able to create good relationships with a very challenging class. It took a long time for us to be able understand how we would work as class and develop the ideology of being a team. I was fortunate enough to teach that class for two years, the best two years of my teaching career to date. They will always hold a special place in my heart. I am a Mum so I love spending time with my two children. We love spending time with our extending family and going on adventures. I enjoy listening to music, cooking/baking, socialising with my friends and watching different sports. I love watching female football, athletics, netball and tennis. I teach mainly Year 5 and 6, focusing on SATs preparation. However, I also teach any age within the primary years.
