I have been teaching Science since 2003 and teaching Chemistry A level at schools in Derbyshire and Staffordshire. My background is in metallurgy and materials engineering but decided to go into Secondary education when I started my family. I progressed in my teaching career to manage a Science faculty and was successful in improving outcomes for pupils at GCSE and A Level Sciences. I also spent 3 years working as an Examiner and coursework moderator for OCR. I am familiar with all the different Science specifications and examination boards and have experience adapting to the necessary specifications as required. My degree specialism is a BEng(Hons) in Metallurgy and Materials Science at Nottingham University. I continued in research at the University then worked as a metallurgist before moving into education when I started my family.
I started tutoring A level Chemistry at first as a favour to my friends son. Then another pupil in his class asked me to tutor him also. From then, and through word of mouth I built up my tutoring base to tutor Science and Chemistry for both OCR and AQA examination boards. My students have generally made progress by 2 or more grades with me and my A level students have managed to achieve the grades required to study Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
I qualified as a secondary teacher in 2003 and have been teaching Science at KS3 and KS4 with specialism in Chemistry A Level. During my extensive teaching career I progressed to lead a large Science department and saw outcomes improve for all pupils across the Science curriculum. I have also assisted 6th Formers with their personal statements and UCAS applications as part of my pastoral role. I was also an Examiner for OCR which helped me share the best examination techniques for my students. Many of my pupils and tutees ask about revision techniques on run up to mock exams and I will share best practice with them. My extensive experience as a Science teacher and proven outcomes from my students allows me to offer you an optimum tutoring experience to help you make the right progress in the areas you need within Science.
