A bit about Alex S

I have an MA in Renaissance and Romantic Literature from the University of Liverpool and have been teaching English and English Literature at KS3 and GCSE in secondary schools for 21 years. I have a passion for teaching all areas of English and English Literature but my specialism is Shakespeare and Romantic poetry. I have experience of teaching students from a range of backgrounds and abilities. I believe it is important to listen to the student to find out what they what to gain from the sessions and what they want to achieve and focus on. My priority is to allow the student to decide what direction they want to go in and to focus my teaching around their individual needs. I specialise in English and English Literature and teach all areas of the subject. My specialism is Shakespeare and Romantic poetry. I have a great passion for this area and I have an MA in Renaissance and Romantic Literature. I also love creative and descriptive writing, something I enjoy teaching but also doing in my own time. I begin my tutoring sessions by focusing on the needs of the student and what they want to achieve by the end of the session. When I first meet with the student I will always start with a conversation with them about what they would like to aim to work on throughout the sessions and what they want to achieve. My priority is that I am meeting the student's needs. Lessons will vary according to each individual student but typical approaches may include exam technique, looking at model answers, reading and writing tasks. My lessons will always be planned around the students individual needs and what they want to focus on and develop.
