A bit about Joe C

I taught at an FE college for almost seven years, and in 2016 I completed a PGCE at UCLAN, achieving a Grade 1. I have worked as an accredited AQA examiner (marking 8700/2), and recently completed a Master's in Screenwriting to supplement my first-class undergraduate degree in English Literature. I am most familiar with AQA exam papers (specifically the 8700 GCSE English Language spec and the A-Level 7716/7717 English Literature B spec), but my skills and resources are adaptable to suit all texts and requirements. Having taught in FE, I am used to teaching 16-19 year olds, but I also I regularly taught an adult evening class. I am comfortable teaching KS3, and have experience delivering City & Guilds/Edexcel Functional Skills qualifications. My name is Joe, and I currently work as a freelance painter and writer. I have almost seven years of experience teaching GCSE and A-Level English in an FE college, where I started working as a learning assistant in 2014. In that time, I taught over five-hundred students, and helped to establish the A-Level contingent of the college. I am based in the North West of England and recently graduated from a Master's in Screenwriting. I worked as an AQA examiner in 2018, and am confident that my experience - coupled with my bespoke and approachable teaching style - will be perfect to help students prepare for their upcoming examinations/next steps on this platform. I believe in talking about texts on a human level, and while mark schemes and exam techniques are highly important, it is crucial that students feel comfortable to share their true feelings about a subject, text or task. With this in mind, I try to teach in line with students' specific interests and life experiences, cultivating an honest and open dialogue from which to build towards the more formal requirements of assessment.
