A bit about Robynne V

Hi! I have 5 years experience in educational settings with young people and adults. I love tutoring and supporting students in their English or Humanities work; any grade / level / age in any form of English work whether it be literature or language. I have experience with EFL students and speakers. Working with SEN students is also in my expertise and I have built wonderful relationships with students on the autism spectrum and their families, as well as Dyslexia, ADHD and Social/Emotional support for learning. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism with Photojournalism Hons, so I can help build up your confidence to produce high quality essay writing or storytelling for your studies. I have worked with dyslexic students and watched them fall in love with English despite their challenges. I could discuss a novel's themes and motifs all day and can expand your writing skills over any format or essay type. Let's achieve all your English or learning goals together!

My students have always given me the feedback that I hope for; that they can tell I lead from the heart, and I take the time to be kind, patient and authentic in my teaching style and the way I communicate with students. I listen very carefully and make sure students feel heard in their responses, that they truly understand the topic and aren't just nodding along, and that they NEVER feel like they should doubt themselves. We can only learn from integrating mistakes, I know learning can actually be fun because I learn best when I have the freedom to be myself. I can explain something at any level and never patronize anyone, my patience is at level 150, and I am resourceful and grounded in my approach. I love to learn together and I believe strike the appropriate balance of equality and understanding between teacher and student when I tutor.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Journalism, Writing and Media Studies (also majored in English Lit and Drama) and I continued to specialize in Photojournalism for my Honours year in 2013. I have a TEFL certificate and 1 year experience in tutoring EFL learners. I’ve tutored adults informally through my work in Vancouver, and formally through my work at a secondary school in Swindon, primarily supporting SEN learners. In 2020/2021 I completed the following accredited courses from the CPD platform Anspear: Understanding Teenage Life, Understanding Autism, Working as a TA, Invisible Students, Supporting Autism & Learning Disabilities in the Classroom, Advanced Psychology & Advanced Child Psychology, Counseling Children & Adolescents.

In 2018/2019, I ran an Adult Education Centre for men in recovery in Vancouver – and there I initiated a Book Club and a Photography Club which had meaningful and transformative effects on my teaching and photography skills. Sharing the joy of reading and photography with other people and seeing their own confidence and skillset grow was massively rewarding. I also taught written and verbal English to a French-Canadian man who had no spoken English, and in 2 months we managed to build up his basic skills. I also worked with a man who had never been to school due to addiction and he went back and got his adult qualifications. These were all wonderfully successful and rewarding teaching experiences for me.
