A bit about Sharon S

I have been teaching for more than 30 years. I have taught in South Africa, Italy and England. I have many hours of experience teaching online and take a special interest in each student. Teaching mathematics has always been very rewarding for me - seeing a child's face when the penny drops is wonderful. My main objective is always understanding rather than shortcuts. I have tutored almost since I started teaching (over 30 years ago!). I left fulltime teaching for a year to assist the government of South Africa in writing lesson plans for schools in need. During this time I built up a large group of students requiring one on one assistance. I usually try to split my lesson between some actual teaching of a current or previous topic which will then lead into questions from the student. This creates more time to teach but in a way that helps to focus on each child's own needs. Some lessons may start with a specific need from the student (a current topic or preparing for a test) which I find almost always leads to revising previous concepts which helps to consolidate their overall understanding.
