A bit about Wen

Hi I am Wen Zhang, I am a Chinese native speaker and have lived in the UK for three years. I have a bachelor's degree in English literature. Also, I have a master's degree in Applied Linguistics with TESOL from the University of Sheffield. I have a Certificate of Putonghua Proficiency Test for Level II, Grade A. I am really interested in Chinese language research and teaching. I have two years of experience in teaching Mandarin Chinese both online and offline. I have worked at Cowley International College in Liverpool and helped students from Primary school to GCSE and HSK to improve their Mandarin Chinese successfully, especially in speaking and listening. If you learn with me, I can help you either with preparing for Chinese exams or daily conversation based on your interests. Before planning the course, you can book an introduction session to let us be familiar with each other. I will ask a list of questions to find out what kind of student you are including your Chinese level, interest and goal. To find out the best plan I will ask what you did in your previous lessons or what you learned by yourself or you never learned Chinese before, and will plan accordingly. First, I will set a learning objective. This will be an overall goal to achieve during the session. Second, I will begin with a warm-up, this will be something related to the lesson that is quick and interesting and it will help you to prepare yourself for the rest of the class. Third, after finishing the warm-up we will start the main lesson plan, I use Chinese textbooks like Jinbu to help me prepare the lesson, and design some activities by myself as well to sure the lesson will be structured and productive. The lesson will include a PowerPoint containing helpful graphics for visual learners. Finally, we will practice the key knowledge together this will serve as a refresher and will help you to keep the knowledge gained over our session. I can send you the powerpoint after the session if you wish to review the lesson afterwards. My first tutoring experiences is two years ago. I worked as an English private teacher/tutor in the new oriental company in China. During this period, I assisted students to prepare standardized English language exams and most showed a significant improvement. Some examples of the tests include secondary school entrance English test and college entrance English exam. Whilst I spent a large time tutoring I english I have also had experience in one on one tutoring a variety of students on mandarin during my time teaching at prestigious international private school in the UK. I also provide one-to-one personalized tutoring for different students to improve their English listening, reading, writing and speaking. What I love most is encouraging students to talk and practise with me. Compared with other subjects, language is more likely a tool for people to communicate and learn about different cultures. It is more than just a test that students need to get high scores. so in the class, after we learned the new words and sentence structure, I'd like to spend more time helping the student to practise speaking Chinese. If a student has specific listening, reading or writing requirements, I will also help him/her to practise this.
