A bit about Catherine C

I have been a teacher for over 20 years, specialising in science at KS3 and GCSE (both the triple and combined AQA specifications). I have also taught maths, computer science and ICT - I have always enjoyed seeing the links between subjects as this helps me to make my teaching more relevant for students. I have mentored and tutored students throughout my career, and I really enjoy working with small groups or 1 to 1. I like to start by finding out a student's strengths, then move on to looking at those areas where they are struggling. In my experience, confidence is often the key to success, so working on this and giving the student the skills to problem solve and understand what the examiner is looking for is central. Outside of teaching, I enjoy outdoor pursuits (this was where I started in teaching) - particularly mountain biking and hill walking. I am a keen artist, particularly in print making but I also love drawing and painting. I find having a broad range of interests useful when I am teaching, as it gives me an opportunity to connect with students and also find models and examples for explaining difficult concepts.
