A bit about Oscar P

Prior to university and tutoring, I got 3 A* grades at A-Level in Maths, Physics and Further Maths. This gave me experience of these qualifications and the knowledge of how students can effectively revise for these topics, alongside now having done 4 years of tutoring. I've also almost finished my Engineering Science MEng (in my 4th Year), so I've had lots of practice in applying what I learned at A-Level alongside what effective one-to-one tutoring looks like at Oxford. I have experience going through UCAS and doing lots of Oxbridge preparation (particularly for STEM/Engineering) so I am qualified to tutor in these areas, alongside having done 11+ preparation tutoring previously! Furthermore I cover electronics and programming in my Engineering MEng (with further outside study) which is why I offer tutoring for these at a high level! I've been tutoring ever since my first year of university (4 years ago), with numerous students online and in-person. I enjoy showing others how Mathematics and Physics works both theoretically and in practice, so I'd love to help other students find their passion in these areas and can also support university admissions preparation! I've continued to tutor throughout my degree as it's rewarding and online tutoring gives me a great means to do so. Aside from engineering, I love to code and I'm always developing my coding skills as I enjoy the challenge. Otherwise, I'm an avid rower at university for my college team, while I also play guitar in my spare time! I prefer to teach A-Level, AS-Level or GCSE, but will also teach IB and some engineering college qualifications. I can cover most exam boards; I can adapt to the preferred exam board or suggest one for the student, using online resources and my previous experience. The topics across exam boards are often very similar, but perhaps requiring different teaching approaches, so I'm happy to cover this in more detail. Students enjoy my lessons partially because I went through my A-Levels not too long ago, so I know all the best tips! I believe the in a bottom-up approach; take each topic and help the student understand all the concepts at a deep level before tackling exam questions. I have experience both being taught and teaching one-to-one, poking at the student's understanding of a topic in every question to enable them to gain a more rounded understanding. I also will follow along the specification and textbook closely to make sure the student is fully set up to do well in their exams. Ultimately I want lessons to be something the student looks forward to! Firstly I'll cover any questions from material that the student has looked over since our last lesson, which I may have set or they may have done themselves. Then I'll start off on our current topic, covering the main concepts and checking their understanding at each stage with examples to go through interactively. I'll adapt the speed that we cover material to the student's understanding and requirements. Sometimes we may need to go into detail and I'll throw in a few more examples to help! Then as we come to a close, I've noted down what sections the student struggled with and will set some things to look at before the next lesson, so they can highlight some more areas they'd like to talk about if necessary. I also find it important to track progress and keep up with the student's timeline. Particularly in maths/physics/engineering, using a formulaic approach and intuition to solve a difficult problem is rewarding! As a tutor I enjoy seeing students using approaches I have taught to solve problems on their own and apply it to different situations. I think these subjects are difficult but enjoyable and intuitive if taught in the right way.
