A bit about Ruqaiya J

I am a PhD Psychology student and specialise in Health Psychology and online tuition for core and additional subjects. I achieved BPS accredited BSc Psychology and MSc Health Psychology degrees. My A-levels were in Psychology, Sociology and Religious Education (Philosophy & Ethics). In my GCSEs I achieved the following grades: Religious Studies - A*; Sociology - B; Geography- B; English Literature - B; English Language - C; Maths - C; Computer Science - C; Art - C; Biology - C; Chemistry - C; Physics - C; Citizenship - C and Urdu - C. I am an MSc Health Psychology graduate from the University of Westminster. I am currently undertaking a PhD in Humam Sciences (Psychology). I have experience in online tutoring and home tutoring. I am interested in becoming a Psychology teacher in the future. For this reason I am trying to build my experience of teaching through providing tuition services. I enjoy working with children and have worked in many schools with children from a range of ages and backgrounds. Notably, I have worked with SEN children too so I understand the level of patience and understanding that is necessary when working with children and students in general. I usually plan out my lessons by contacting the client to find out what it is that they would like to learn and then creating a lesson plan based on that information. I like to thoroughly research the topic to gather the most relevant and helpful information for the client and then use this to create PowerPoint presentations for the lessons. I have also used online whiteboards in previous online tuition jobs to teach my students and I think this is an excellent resource for teaching. However, I have a lot of experience in tutoring and so at times when the lesson isn't planned or doesn't go as planned, as the client may wish to learn a different topic, then I follow a generic plan for that topic or subject. Also, in such circumstances, I tend to ask the client if there is anything they are particularly interested in so the lesson is focused on their specific learning needs and then I plan the rest of the lesson on meeting them. I believe this ensures the best outcome for the student and makes me as the tutor feel like I've fulfilled my duty as their tutor to the best of my abilities. I have tutored students at home over the years however last year I started online tuition. The thing i love the most about teaching my subjects is sharing my knowledge with my students that excites me and seeing the same enthusiasm in them. Its also an amazing feeling when after so much effort they finally understand something and you feel like you've accomplished your mission as a tutor. My teaching style is to be patient, understanding and to build a rapport with the student. I believe these are essential qualities in building excellent communication between the tutor and the student, which is essential for achieving educational goals. My favourite thing about being a tutor is knowing that I can make a difference to a student's educational achievement. For instance, finding out that a student has improved in their grades at school and seeing a big smile on their face really makes me enjoy my job as a tutor. My teaching philosophy is that patience is the key to success and I like to encourage my students to think above and beyond. This helps boost their confidence and prevents them from giving up when their school work seems difficult and unmanageable. Students seem to like the fact that I often ask them questions about how they're feeling in regards to their work and also they like when I give them activities or learning games to do. This is because the lesson for them becomes fun and exciting and so they are more happy to learn. The greatest success I have had with teaching is improving students confidence levels alongside their educational achievements. I have achieved 13 GCSEs A*-C grades (Including English, Maths and Sciences), 3 A-levels (Sociology, Psychology and Philosophy & Ethics), BSc (Hons) Psychology degree and an MSc Health Psychology degree. My passion for psychology motivated me to want to teach it too as I find this subject so unique and want to share my knowledge of it with others. So for this reason I am an aspiring psychology teacher. However, I am currently teaching many different subjects just to gained general teaching experience and then will focus on psychology teaching in the future. I am interested in learning languages and so I have done a course in learning the Urdu language at King's College London. I am currently undertaking the second part of this course. Additionally, I enjoy watching historical TV shows, especially turkish TV series as they help me learn Turkish and the shows are always amazing. I also enjoy baking, travelling and exercising in my spare time. Alongside doing these activities, I also like to take time out to relax, as I feel that this is good for my mental, emotional and physical well being, and I recommend others to do the same. This is because it helps an individual feel recharged and more ready to work or learn again. I have taught students from different exam boards and different year groups. Notably, most of my students have been those on the AQA, Edexcel and WJEC boards and GCSE and A-level students.
