A bit about Corina K

I have been teaching English for 20 years straight. I have developed a strong and varied repertoire of techniques and approaches to make sure that my students become independent users of the language. I have taught more than 1000 students of all ages during my career. I specialise in reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as building vocabulary and grammar. I have designed my own approach to teaching and developing vocabulary with great results for my students. I got my first job as a teacher 20 years ago, teaching English as a second language in language schools in Greece and Cyprus. I used to live in Greece, where I owned and managed my language school in Athens. When I relocated in Cyprus I took up online teaching and teacher training. So, in addition to teaching English I also train teachers with teaching English as a second language. My lessons usually have a warm up and a PPP approach. Depending on wether I am teaching specific skills or specific systems of the language, I break down the lesson to 10-15 minute activities that have a final formative assessment in the end. This is to make sure that my students have completely understood the objective before moving onto the next one. What I love most about teaching my subject is the fact that it combines skills that are transferable throughout life, with intellectuality. It provides a foundation for critical thinking as well as high level literacy. A person who can speak and write well is more free to express his ideas and thoughts to others. This is what I try to pass to my students as well. I am a friendly tutor and I try to support my students throughout their learning journey. At the same time I try to instil good habits that will help them in their academic studies. I believe students not only learn by academic field but also by the examples that they have in their lives. So, I try to be the best example through my work. My favourite thing about being a tutor is looking at my students grow as learners and as individuals through their studies. It is always a pleasure to understand that they apply their knowledge to different aspects of their lives and not only to academic subjects. It is also a very warming feeling to know that students trust you with their future.
