A bit about Rachel P

I’m a primary teacher of 20 years with a love of maths. I’d love everyone I teach to leave me with the same love of it too. Did you know that primary teachers can do everything?! This means I am also excited to teach phonics, reading and writing to any of my prospective students. If you're preparing for SATs or just want a bit of extra help to understand something that bit more, I'm here for you! As well as class teacher of years 2,3 and 4, I’ve taught across the primary age range and been maths lead for the last 15 years. Although I’m quite new to tutoring, I’m a very experienced teacher and excited to try new things. My greatest successes include changing children from being scared of maths to loving it and not being afraid to have a go. You’re not learning unless you’re making a couple of mistakes! I wanted to be a teacher from being a little girl with a teddy bear class. I finally realised my dream in 2003 and spent the next 19 years teaching mainly between years 1,2,3 and 4. With a degree in Pure Maths, I inevitably became maths lead in a large primary school with the aim of making every child have a love of maths and a love of challenge! When I'm first getting to know someone, we might play some games or do a quiz to see what you're great at and what you need a bit of extra work on - feel free to tell me too! A lesson will start with a recap on anything we've worked on before and we can address any issues either there and then or as the lesson goes on. I'll show you something new, get you to have a go at it with me then by yourself with me there to support or challenge you if needed. It's always good to have a challenge so we'll might try something so that you can surprise yourself with! The whole point of these sessions is you, so I'll help and extend your learning as appropriate throughout the lesson.
