A bit about David B

I've been teaching Maths for 20 years, working at an Alternative Education setting as well as 1-1 tutoring at home, and remotely for the last few years. I worked as a Head of Mathematics and Leader of Learning and currently mark exam papers for Edexcel and AQA. I am a fully qualified teacher, having obtained a degree in Physics from the University of Warwick, as well as Further Maths, and A-Levels in Maths, Physics and Chemistry. I also used to compete in the UK and World Memory Championship so am able to teach pupils the skills and techniques to be able to memorise anything, which is a great transferable skills into other subjects. Edexcel and AQA, year 7 - 11 or into 6th form for any retakes. I enjoy sports, particular racket sports like badminton and table tennis. I am also a bee keeper and make products from the beeswax. I keep Chickens, Geese and Turkeys too. The moments I love are when you see that spark in a pupils' eye, they understand something they haven't before, or suddenly realise why Maths is such an amazing thing to learn about. Having the time to explain topics properly, and working with the student and parents on their learning goals. We have usually agreed a sequence of learning topics beforehand. We'd run through those topics, teaching, practicing, moving onto exam style questions, and then writing revision notes. This is mixed with past paper practice (for KS4 pupils), revisiting the students revision notes and improving them where necessary. Funnily enough, when I left school the one thing I said I wasn't going to be was a teacher! Probably because both my parents were (Maths) teachers and I saw how much hard work it was. However, I was working in IT and doing a bit of sports coaching, as well as teaching on IT systems within the company. I realised that I actually loved teaching so quit my job and retrained as a Maths teacher. Not looked back since.
