A bit about Shabiib O

I started tutoring during my A-levels at a Kumon Centre in 2016. I specialised in Mathematics tutoring senior Maths pupils covering KS3 & KS4 core maths topics. Topics taught were algebraic equations, simultaneous equations, linear and non-linear functions, graph transformations, mathematical modeling, geometry, circle theorems, and trigonometry. I have continued to specialise only in Maths tutoring GCSE and A-Level students gaining online experience until present. This has been for the duration of the Covid pandemic to overcome fear of students falling behind. My first initial lesson would involve introducing myself to the student and sharing my love for teaching mathematics and brief history of my maths journey. I will ask the tutee their current view of mathematics alongside topics they enjoy the most to build social interaction and ask their hobbies and connect it to mathematics as a warm up activity. During the sessions, each session will begin with a list of relevant keywords to use understanding a topic. These keywords will be used between the tutor and tutee to become familiar with their meaning in practice and exam questions. I will at times give the student time to actively recall a previous lesson to build onto any new topic and various activities to test their previous knowledge. During the lesson, I will use different forms of learning with visual diagrams, educational videos, and clear explanations whilst offering the tutee to ask any spontaneous questions. Exam papers will be used for the student to apply their knowledge to a numerical or word problem to become exposed to different question styles. At the end of the lesson will be a chance for the tutee to provide any feedback and agree to an action plan going forward between sessions to measure progress. I specialise only in Mathematics as a tutor. It is a broad and interesting subject which does not bore me learning and teaching countless topics Teaching mathematics is a joy to directly witness a child`s confidence and learning grow. The child's ability to solve complex questions through the tutoring session independently regardless of making a mistake or not is inspiring. Finally, the tutee being fully engaged in asking questions directed at the lesson and eager to make confident guesses to a new topic shows the progressive realization of a child's learning. I have a BSc in Mathematics and Statistics achieving a grade of 2:1. Prior to university, I pursued an A-level Maths involving Core Maths with statistics and Mechanics as well GCSE Mathematics and GCSE Statistics Helping a student pass their resit GCSE Exam in 6months after experiencing low-self-esteem and confidence failing the summer exam.
