A bit about Georgina N

Throughout my teaching career of over a decade, I've honed my ability to engage with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles. I’ve taught both intermediate and senior school levels, specialising in science and biology. Having taught IGCSE coordinated science (Chemistry, Physics and Biology GCSE level) for several years as well as being a IB Biology teacher (both HL and SL) and examiner(HL) has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of different syllabi, guiding students effectively through their academic challenges. I'm Georgina, a vet turned science and biology teacher. After working as a vet, I realised I loved sharing my passion for the natural world with students. I've been teaching for over ten years now, and it’s been an amazing journey. In my classes, I make learning fun and interactive. II aim to make tricky concepts easy to understand and help you discover how awesome science can be finding links with the real world to help you understand and connect with your everyday life. My teaching philosophy centres on student-centred and inquiry-based learning. I make lessons interactive and engaging by using digital tools like virtual labs, simulations, and multimedia presentations. Each student’s needs and interests are unique, so I tailor lessons accordingly. In an online setting, I employ various strategies to engage students. I encourage them to ask questions and explore topics deeply through projects and experiments that they can conduct at home or via virtual labs. I use Socratic discussions to establish comprehension and deepen understanding, fostering critical thinking and dialogue. Regular assessments and feedback are crucial for student growth. I use online quizzes, interactive polls, and formative assessments to gauge understanding and provide immediate feedback, keeping students on track and supported. However, I am mindful of the pressure assessments can create and will always tailor my approach to suit the needs of each individual student, ensuring that the benefits outweigh any potential stress. My expertise lies in biology and general science, with a focus on real-world applications to make learning relevant and connected to everyday life. As an IB Biology examiner, I stay current with educational standards and practices, ensuring my teaching methods are effective and up-to-date. This role has also enhanced my ability to prepare students for rigorous assessments, helping them achieve their academic goals, not only in IB programmes but in A level and AS as well. Outside of teaching, I love hiking, horse riding, and taking photos of nature. I also enjoy painting, drawing, reading, and travelling.
